Hey, I’m Kerri Ann and I’m the Founder of Rebel Bean Coffee. This is the spot where I’m supposed to tell you of my undying love for coffee, it’s aroma, it’s subtle undertones and bold flavours and why you should drink our coffee.
But, my coffee truth is a bit different.
My coffee business didn’t start with a deep and passionate love for craft coffee. I mean, I loved coffee, don’t get me wrong. But it was a two cups a day, can’t start my day without it kinda love (probably just like you) but not in an “i’m going to create a coffee empire” kinda way.
I started as a single m0m, with two small humans and a fire in my heart to take care of us all by myself. And it was elevated by a belief in humanity and the universe. ‘Cause I’m a bit hippy like that.
Here we are years later, and Rebel Bean has enjoyed growth and success just like I have personally. The coffee itself is, of course, very important and I’m grateful that we have found a following of customers that love it for exactly what it is —- great coffee. But it’s still not as important to me as the people who drink it, the relationships they build over coffee, the way coffee impacts so many areas in the fabric of life, and the communities that both support it and benefit from it.

Toby has a secret… wait who’s Toby? Toby is the name I’ve given to the beautiful 25 year old Turkish drum coffee roaster that arguably does the most important job in our business. ‘He’ has become a symbol for the way we do things at Rebel Bean. Simple. A little bit different. Kinda noisy. Always operating on love.
But what’s Toby’s secret?
For every batch of coffee that we roast with Toby, there is always at least one bean that doesn’t roast. It will stand out in a sea of caramel brown beans as the one that fights the power, goes its own way, and wouldn’t possibly want to look like all the others. There is, of course, a reason why (because, science) but instead of wishing it would look and taste like all the others, we pluck it right out and celebrate it instead. Because that little bean is showing us all that we have the power to go our own way too.
